A wedding is a time of joy for a happy couple and their loved ones. Since their beautiful Central Park proposal last August, Marissa Hausman and Dan Beckwith have been making arrangements for their June wedding. As they were putting together their wedding registry, they had an idea—to add the option to donate to ADAPT to the list.
ADAPT has been a part of Marissa’s life for a long time, as her great-grandparents, Leo and Blanche Hausman, were co-founders of the organization. Her uncle, James Hausman, is Vice President & Secretary of ADAPT’s Board of Directors, and she has attended the annual ADAPT Leadership Awards Gala countless times.
However, her involvement hasn’t stopped there. Marissa and Dan wanted to be as involved as possible in ADAPT’s work, so they began volunteering in March of 2024.
“[We wanted] to actually be there and see firsthand the positive impact that ADAPT has,” Marissa expressed. “It’s something I want to be a part of as much as I can.”
Soon, volunteering became a major part of the couple’s weekends as they attended monthly events and Saturday Supplemental Day Hab, a recreational program that allows individuals to continue learning and socializing. They helped out with various activities, which included playing games, watching movies, and dancing the night away at Club Disco.
“It’s a lot of fun,” Marissa said. “Getting to know the group there is the best part.”
“It doesn’t feel like volunteering,” Dan added. “It feels like an opportunity to get involved in the lives of the individuals and to add something new to our own lives.”
We greatly appreciate everything Marissa and Dan have done for the ADAPT community, from behind the scenes in their wedding registry to the dance floor at Club Disco. Thanks to Marissa and Dan’s kindness, we can further our mission of empowering people through innovative solutions, one person at a time. ADAPT Community Network sends our congratulations to the happy couple!
