Volunteers from Bonadio Group Devote Day of Giving to Pelham Adult Day Program

In August, ADAPT Community Network’s Pelham Adult Day Program welcomed the Bonadio Group’s NYC office for their annual Purpose Day. Eighteen volunteers from Bonadio participated in a range of activities designed to support Pelham’s operations and enhance its programming.

The volunteers contributed to several key projects, including the setup of a sensory room, organization of supply closets, and creation of colorful masks and armbands. This collaboration was part of Pelham’s preparations for J’ouvert, a traditional Caribbean festival celebrated in the morning before Carnival. The festival, which means “dawn” in French Creole, is a key event in Caribbean culture and was integrated into Pelham’s programming to promote cultural awareness and community engagement.

Adam, a former Principal at Bonadio who coordinated the event, emphasized the significance of the volunteer effort:

“ADAPT has been a client of ours for years, and this was our first time volunteering at Pelham,” Adam said. “It was a rewarding experience for everyone involved.”

The Bonadio Group, a CPA firm based in New York State, celebrates a yearly Purpose Day, where it closes its offices and encourages staff to volunteer with their local non-profit organizations. ADAPT regularly partners with Bonadio for Purpose Day

Greg, a Bonadio volunteer participating for the third year, noted, “My brother is a Special Education Teacher. I am always inspired by how much he is helping others and giving back. It feels good to translate my work and to help in my own way.”

Bah, who has been involved with ADAPT’s accounts for five years, added, “It feels good to get out, to work in the field, and see the real people and the real causes behind the accounts we work on.”

Gail Simon, Director at Pelham Adult Day Program, discussed the impact of the J’ouvert celebration, saying, “Last year, when our two programs merged, we realized we were so similar. We share so many aspects. We started this festival, and it really brought us together.” This year’s festival will include floats, music, dancing, and food to celebrate the holiday.

Gail also expressed gratitude for Bonadio’s support: “It was wonderful to have Bonadio come. I don’t think they realize how much it helps, and that they are doing so much to help make the festival amazing.  It means so much.”

The Purpose Day at Pelham demonstrated the positive outcomes of community collaboration. ADAPT Community Network appreciates the Bonadio Group’s dedication and looks forward to future engagements.
