Honoring Linda Laul: Celebrating 35 Years of Leadership and Service

After 35 extraordinary years of service, ADAPT Community Network bids a heartfelt farewell to our former Chief Executive Officer, Linda Laul, as she begins her well-earned retirement. As the fourth CEO in ADAPT’s 80-year history, Linda helped guide ADAPT through decades of growth and transformation, playing an instrumental role in expanding the organization’s programs and services while strengthening its mission of supporting people with disabilities.

Linda’s connection to the disability services field began long before her time at ADAPT.  Shortly after graduating from St. John’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, she began her career as a special education teacher. She later advanced into administrative leadership for the New York State system where she supervised residential, day, and clinical programs throughout Long Island. Her first role as a teacher in Suffolk County introduced her to working with people with disabilities and inspired a lifelong passion for the field. Not only did she play a vital role in expanding the educational program, but she also fostered an environment centered on learning, inclusion, and support.

In 1990, Linda joined ADAPT Community Network as Assistant Executive Director for Day Services, and in 2012, she assumed responsibility for all programs and clinical services as Chief Operating Officer. In April of 2025, she was elected Chief Executive Officer.

During her tenure, Linda championed innovation and a culture of collaboration that empowered both staff and the people ADAPT support, ensuring that the organizations mission remains at the heart of every decision.

To celebrate Linda’s extraordinary 35-year journey, ADAPT Community Network honored her with a heartfelt retirement celebration filled with memories, laughter, and tributes from ADAPT colleagues and friends.

“We are all so thankful for your trust in all of us, your ongoing commitment to the success of the organization, and the future of this industry,” shares Mariette McBride, Chief Quality Improvement Officer. “You instilled in all of us such respect and admiration for the work that we do and ensuring that we all remember that at the end of the day, regardless of title, we are all here for the people we support and their families.”

“Linda’s leadership has not only shaped this organization and our field – she has transformed lives,” shares, Dahlian Porter, Chief Operating Officer. “Her legacy is reflected not only in the programs developed at ADAPT or the milestones achieved, but it’s also the unique ability to balance strength with compassion.”

While Linda’s presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of leadership, empowerment, and compassion will continue to shape ADAPT for years to come. She leaves a lasting impact on our staff, the people we support, their families, and the entire ADAPT community. We thank Linda for her extraordinary service and the legacy she leaves behind.

We invite you to watch our new series, “Legacies in Motion” featuring Linda Laul to learn more about her career at ADAPT.
