ADAPT’s A.C.T.I.O.N. (Adolescents Coming Together In Our Neighborhood) Summer Day Camp took place this year from August 13th to August 30th, 2019, and although the time may have been short-lived the campers had a wonderful camp experience.  There were twenty-five campers from 13 to 21 years old that gathered from all across Brooklyn to partake in some fun-filled activities. Campers were able to enjoy cooking groups, sports, swimming, arts and crafts, and community excursions all throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.

In the first week of camp, our campers enjoyed a cooking group where they made Turkey Taco Bowls. Campers took trips to the New York Aquarium and FunFest Bowling Alley. At the aquarium, campers loved watching the live seal show as well as a 4D experience, which combines a 3D film with a variety of built-in sensory effects.

During the second week, campers made Pasta Pronto Italiano and miniature pizzas. Additionally, the participants enjoyed a product photography class where they learned how to photograph personal mementos for commercial advertisement. The campers enjoyed experiences at the Liberty Science Center, the Museum of Moving Images and Max Adventures. At Max Adventures, an amusement center, the A.C.T.I.O.N. Campers were able to enjoy laser tag, the Magic Mirror Photo Booth, a glow in the dark party with music, as well as virtual reality games and arcade games.

In the last week of camp, the campers made Vegetarian Quiche. The campers went to Prospect Park to enjoy a field day of sports and games as well as a picnic. The Harlem Magic Masters visited the program for an exciting and entertaining basketball trick show. The final trip was to the Circle Line Sightseeing Cruise where campers took a tour around the Hudson experiencing sights such as the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty. Camp ended with a fantastic ice cream social and pizza party.

Pavel Kishenko, is a parent who was very pleased with his son’s experience at ACTION. He stated, “My son Dimitri loves the summer camp program. He can not wait to sign up every year for summer camp.” Pavel states, “I appreciate that the program picks him up and drops him off each day. The staff for the program is so nice and makes him feel really comfortable.”

We wish campers well during their new school year and looking forward to seeing them again next year!
