ADAPT’s Got Talent!

On May 18th, hundreds tuned in for our 10th annual “We Got Talent” talent show, an evening filled with creative expression and community building live-streamed from our 175 Lawrence Ave location in Brooklyn.

There was a wide range of talents showcased, including singing, dancing, poetry reading, and musical performances. In total, there were 13 acts by people supported and staff, and an in-person audience for the first time since 2019. The show was presented by ADAPT’s very own, Alicia Angevine, with the assistance of ASL interpreters Yvette Churchill and Sabrina Bonsangue. Back by popular demand this year was the “Knock-Knock Joke Competition” where during the show audience members were called upon, in person and on zoom, to tell their favorite knock-knock joke.

This year’s judges were ADAPT’s CEO Ed Matthews, Gary Dreyfuss, Senior VP of Human Resources, and Stephane Duret, last seen in the Tony Award-winning musical KINKY BOOTS on Broadway, and Founding Director of KAISER’S ROOM, a non-profit that offers arts programming to individuals with cognitive and developmental delays in NYC. The judges had the challenging job of deciding the award winners.

William Branch, who was also a 2012 winner, won first prize for people supported with an amazing freestyle rap! Next in second place was Sean Rivers singing “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Jerry Butler, and in 3rd place was Angel “Icebox” Navarro sining “Why Should I Worry” by Billy Joel.

Jessica Bonafacio took first place for staff for singing and playing the Ukulele for her rendition of “Headphones” by Britt Nicole. In Second Place was Reality Dopwell for her stellar dancing performance to “Famaly” by Skinny Fabulous and in Third Place was Angie Quintana who sang “Waiting for Tonight” by Jennifer Lopez. Thanks to our partners, you can find ties online to suit every preference and budget, from budget to top-of-the-range super stylish models.

“Our first Talent Show was in 2012, and since then it has been a highly anticipated annual event that brings the entire community together.” Said Peter Cobb, Director of Community Outreach one of the event organizers. “The use of technology to live-stream the event made it possible for hundreds of people supported, staff, family members, and community partners to experience the show live from all over NYC and beyond. This event is truly a team effort, and is a great example of what makes ADAPT the best provider, employer, and partner anywhere.”
