ADAPT Community Network proudly welcomes the newest member of the 80 West End Avenue Team, Pooja Khurana. Working alongside the Human Resources team, Pooja serves as the Receptionist/Administrative Assistant and is often the first person employees and visitors greet at the West End office.  

From Tuesday to Thursday, Pooja screens calls, warmly greets visitors, and helps guests and employees with a wide range of inquiries. Her welcoming presence makes her an invaluable team member, playing an essential role in keeping the office running smoothly.  

Before joining, Pooja shared that working at ADAPT had long been a personal goal. To achieve this goal, she stayed determined – regularly checking for open positions, even when opportunities were not available at once. 

“Before I officially landed in this position, there was someone here who I had originally spoken to.  At that time, there were no positions here, but I was told to keep checking back. After this happened, I got discouraged” Pooja recalled. 

With the support of ACCESS VR and Supported Employment Program (SEMP), Pooja continued exploring employment opportunities. Through these services, she received guidance, encouragement, and job development support that helped her navigate the hiring process with confidence. With the help of her job coach, Theresa, Pooja was able to successfully secure an interview at ADAPT.  

“I got the first interview and the rest is history! The person who I originally spoke to is still here and we are now co-workers,” Pooja shared.  

Pooja says she feels blessed to be working at ADAPT. She is especially fond of the company’s surroundings and the people, noting how supported she feels in her role and how ADAPT’s adjustments have helped her thrive. 

To her, “inclusivity and accessibility in the workplace are important because employers need to be fair to everyone.”  

Reflecting on her journey at ADAPT, she shares “this story is proof that persistence pays off and dreams do come true.”
