“You are my greatest adventure, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us” vowed Nora.
On a beautiful September morning, Nora Nelson and Derrick Walbrook celebrated their love with a wedding ceremony at ADAPT’s Port Richmond Day Habilitation Program in Staten Island. Their love story began in October 2021, when Sayndee Hamah of the Castleton IRA introduced Nora to Derrick. From the moment they met, they formed an inseparable bond, marking an instant and profound connection. In 2022, they became engaged, and ever since the couple eagerly awaited the celebration of their union.

That day arrived on September 12th, when their dream of getting married came to life.
The Port Richmond staff came together to organize everything from the decorations and flowers to the food and even a limousine ride. Nora, surrounded by her maids of honor, rode in a limousine from her home to the reception. At Port Richmond, she was greeted with cheers and awe by her guests.
The reception, held in the cafeteria, was transformed into an all-white venue, with each table adorned with white and gold tablecloths and floral centerpieces. Nora walked down the aisle wearing a stunning laced and beaded gown and veil, generously donated by Violeta Nikac. The ceremony was officiated by Director of Residential Program Services, Moses Ojo, who guided the couple through their exchange of vows.
Although they’re not legally married, their wedding marks an important milestone in their relationship. It’s a day Derrick, Nora, and all their friends at Port Richmond will never forget.
