This fall, our people supported gathered at our Flushing Ave Day Program to celebrate ADAPT’s 3rd Annual ASL Slam. This year’s event was filled with vibrant performances that celebrated Deaf community and culture.
Building off last year, Darrel from the Stillwell Adult Learning Center performed an ASL poem about his love for the Yankees, even predicting their 28th championship win next season. Others shared personal experiences with navigating communication barriers on Access-a-Ride, captivating the audience by shedding light on the challenges Deaf individuals face.
Participants also had a blast signing and dancing along to their favorite songs, such as Beyonce’s “Run the World (Girls).” The Slam wrapped up with a lively game of Elephant that brought together our people supported and staff for a fun and competitive finale.
A special thanks to our ASL/Communication Specialists Kishi Lam, Kelsy Wilson, and Sabrina Bonsangue for their hard work in helping put the event together.
