The busyness of life can make it challenging for families of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) to stay current on industry changes which impact the services that their loved ones receive. Fortunately, ADAPT Community Network is here to help keep everyone informed. One big way we do so is through our annual Family Connect Summit, which is fast approaching! This year’s Summit will be held on Friday, May 3rd, at Manhattan’s New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM), located at 1216 Fifth Avenue (entrance at 103rd Street), from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Have you claimed your spot yet?
Every year, more than 500 parents, professionals, and individuals served carve out time to attend the event, and this year’s event should be just as well attended. The plenary session alone is reason to participate: ADAPT’s CEO Edward R. Matthews and Kerry A. Delaney, CEO of Partners Health Plan, will discuss current service delivery and the movement to managed care in the future.
The plenary session will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Other informative sessions will take place during the morning (10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) and the afternoon (1 p.m. to 2 p.m.). Those who plan to attend the Summit are asked to pre-select the workshops they wish to attend. The workshops are as follows:
Morning Session:
[A] Transition to Adulthood: Developing & Implementing Goals for Your Child’s Future
[B] Basics 101: How to Access OPWDD Services for My Family Member
[C] Family Support Services: What Are They and How Do You Get Them?
[D] Parents’ Voices Count! Special Education, Current Advocacy Issues
Afternoon Session:
[E] Thinking Outside of a Certified Environment: Living on My Own
[F] What is Supported Decision Making New York (SDMNY)?
[G] Sensory Friendly Art Works
[H] Managed Care Designed for the I/DD Population
A Vendor Fair will be held at the Summit, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and again from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. There, representatives from ADAPT as well as other organizations and companies will be available to answer questions and distribute information on useful services, resources, and products. ADAPT would like to thank lead sponsor, TD Bank. The Summit is free, but advance registration is required. A snack bag will be provided to all at the event, which is open to adults 18 and over (children are not permitted).
